The Somerset Hills Recorder Society

About Us

The Somerset Hills Recorder Society is a chapter of the American Recorder Society, a not-for-profit organization for recorder players. Members come from all over New Jersey, from as far away as Mountain Lakes and Princeton.

Our meetings

The main purpose of the Society is to bring people together to play music. Usually there is a prominent conductor who brings a selection of music for the evening. The music ranges from the ancient to the contemporary. Meetings are held at the Somerset Hills Lutheran Church, located at 350 Lake Road, Basking Ridge, New Jersey, 07920 from 7:30 to 9:30 PM on the second Friday of the month from September through May. Guests of all playing levels are welcome. If you'd like to play along with us, please bring your recorder(s) and a music stand. You can also come by to learn more about the instrument that:
"Tis as easy as lying; govern these ventages with your fingers and thumb,
give it breath with your mouth,
and it will discourse most eloquent music"

-William Shakespeare
